Where Players Quit Borderlands 4
The biggest step in Borderlands 4 is 13.22 points, and it does not land on a challenge: it lands on reaching level 30, dropping from 79.84% to 66.62%. We analysed all 53 trophies across 20,389 players to see where a looter-shooter run falls apart.

The wall is not a challenge: it is reaching level 30
If you sort the 36 trophies that count towards the platinum from most common to rarest, the biggest step in the whole game sits between "False Idolator", the first story mission, held by 79.84%, and "Good Hunter", which asks you to reach level 30 and is held by 66.62%.
That is 13.22 points in one go, and by some distance the biggest jump on the list: the second largest stops at 10.89. There is no boss there, no difficulty to pick, no hidden collectible. Just a number that goes up as you play.
And it is not a quirk of this game. It is the fourth biggest wall of every one we have measured, and the top four — Crimson Desert, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Dying Light: The Beast and this one — all land on a trophy for advancing, never on a trophy for beating something.
Borderlands 4 has 2 missable trophies, both recoverable, and no hidden ones. Almost nobody is shut out of the platinum by an oversight: if you do not have it, it is nearly always because you stopped playing.
Players quit while advancing the campaign, not on finishing it
The story is what holds up best in the whole game. The group averages 63.71% and its weakest trophy — the end of the campaign — is held by 54.46%: a little over half of everyone who starts Borderlands 4 finishes it. No other group comes close.
What is telling is that the three biggest steps in the game all sit above that ending. 13.22 points on reaching level 30. 10.89 between level 10 (98.94%, the most common trophy in the game) and beating the first world boss (88.05%). And 8.21 between that boss and the first story mission (79.84%).
Translated: by the time a player reaches the last stretch of the story, the heavy attrition has already happened. The curve breaks entirely inside the 98.94% to 66.62% band, and after that it falls slowly.
The progression group sums it up on its own. Its four trophies run from 98.94% (level 10) to 25.89% (Ultimate Vault Hunter level 5), averaging 59.37%, the second highest in the game. And even as the second most retentive group, it holds two of the four biggest steps: level 30 and level 50, which loses 7.32 points going from 53.36% to 46.04%.
Down at the bottom nobody quits: the filter happened much earlier
Out of every 100 people who finish the campaign (54.46%), 22 end up with the platinum (12.07%). But those 22 do not separate from the rest in the hard part, because in the hard part nobody drops out any more.
The four long platinum blocks are packed into the same band: maps average 33.07%, missions 30.57%, loot 29.56% and secrets 28.07%. Four entire groups and five points between the first and the last. Whoever does one does them all.
Maps are the clearest case: an average of 33.07% and a minimum of 30.29%, meaning less than three points separate the map most people complete from the one fewest do. Nobody finishes two and stops.
And the final stretch is flat. The last noticeable step is 4.81 points, from the 16.88% of "Area of Expertise" to the 12.07% of the platinum. Next to the 13.22 of the level bar, it is nothing.
The only serious drop left sits outside the platinum: the 17 story pack trophies run from 10.49% to 1.53%, all below the platinum itself. But that is not quitting, that is content you have to buy separately.
If you are at level 30 and still playing, statistically you are already in the group that platinums. The hard step in Borderlands 4 is behind you, not ahead of you.
All 53 trophies ranked by unlock rate
The full table you can reproduce any calculation on this page from. The «drop» column is the difference in points against the previous trophy that counts towards the platinum: the big steps are where people stop playing. Trophies marked separate are from DLC or from side modes that are not needed for the platinum, so they do not chain a drop — mixing them in would compare steps from different playthroughs.

Where these numbers come from
Unlock rate for the 53 trophies on PS5, measured across 20,389 tracked players. Snapshot source: Exophase, consulted on 21 August 2026. The per-group percentages are simple averages of the trophies in each group, and everything can be rebuilt from the full table further down.
The steps are calculated only among the 36 trophies that count towards the platinum. The 17 from the story packs are deliberately left out: because you have to buy them, their percentages — from 10.49% to 1.53% — would create enormous steps that measure not quitting but how many people paid up.
One warning about the sample: these are players who use a trophy tracker, more motivated than average. The real percentages across all of PS5 are probably lower. The proportions between trophies, which is what we analyse here, are unaffected.
What these numbers cannot tell you
The wall says where, not why. That the level 30 step is 13.22 points does not explain the reason. It could be fatigue with the loot loop, it could be that the world opens up too much right there, it could be that another game came out that week. The data marks the spot, not the cause.
It is a snapshot of a single moment, less than a year after release. Walls soften over the months as people go back to unfinished saves, and this one will come down. By how much we will not know unless we start recording it now, because the history cannot be recovered after the fact.
The comparison with other games is against the ones we have measured, not against the PS5 catalogue. That this is the fourth biggest wall on the site means exactly that and nothing more.
