Where Players Quit Monster Hunter Wilds

59.7% finish the story and 5.3% take the platinum. We analysed all 50 trophies across 75,659 players to explain why the wall is not a boss but monster size, and why fishing loses more people than Hunter Rank 100.

The platinum is the crowns: 6.1% against 5.3%

The two rarest trophies in the game, below only the platinum, are the crown ones: Miniature Crown Master (6.1%) and Giant Crown Master (6.5%). From the first to the platinum, 5.3%, there are eight tenths. Almost everyone who closes the 52 crowns closes the game, because by then they have done everything else.

The drop is in the step from Collector to Master. For miniature crowns, from 12.5% with 10 monsters to 6.1% with all 26: half fall away. For gold crowns, from 19.3% to 6.5%: two in three fall away.

None of those trophies asks for skill. They ask you to repeat hunts until the size comes up, and the 26 monsters include some that only live in one region.

Key

The Monster Hunter Wilds curve does not break at a boss: it breaks on monster size. The two rarest trophies are crowns, not combat.

Fishing has the lowest average in the game: 27.7%

By group, the one fewest people complete is not crowns (28.2% average) but fishing, endemic life and rare items: 27.7%. It holds the game's third-rarest trophy, A-fish-ionado (7.7%), 30 whoppers, below Hunter Rank 100 (42.7%) and the 50 apex predators (21.6%).

The group starts high — Angling for a Bite is held by 70.8% — and collapses as soon as Kanya's chain is needed: the giant squid, which requires her last bait, drops to 17.6%, and the ten Rarity 6 items to 10.6%.

For comparison: the average across every trophy that counts for the platinum is 48.7%, and the story group sits at 71.3%.

No cliff: the biggest drop is 9.8 points, and it comes first

Sorted by rarity, the 49 trophies that count for the platinum slope down like a ramp. The biggest drop between two consecutive ones is 9.8 points, from the 91.3% of Windward Lands to the 81.5% of The Bigger They Are...; the next is 7.1 points, from I Caught a Shooting Star! (29.3%) to A Keen-eyed Observation (22.2%). No other exceeds 5.1.

The story is spread the same way. The credits of Bringer of Harmony (70.6%) are not the end, and from there to One Corner of the World (59.7%) 10.9 points are lost over three chapters. Then comes the big gap: from 59.7% to the platinum's 5.3% there are 54.4 points. Fewer than one in eleven of those who finish the story reach the end of the list.

And one figure that sums up the curve: A Keen-eyed Observation (22.2%) can be done in chapter 1, in the same mission that gives Giant Crown (80.8%). The difference is taking out the Binoculars.

The full table you can reproduce any calculation on this page from. The «drop» column is the difference in points against the previous trophy that counts towards the platinum: the big steps are where people stop playing. Trophies marked separate are from DLC or from side modes that are not needed for the platinum, so they do not chain a drop — mixing them in would compare steps from different playthroughs.

Where this data comes from

Unlock rate of all 50 trophies on PS5, measured across 75,659 tracked players. Snapshot source: PSNProfiles, consulted on 25 September 2026, nineteen months after launch (28 February 2025). The 49 that are not the platinum all count towards it: the free updates added monsters but no trophies.

The game has 0 missable trophies and 13 hidden ones: the eight story trophies and five more.

A caveat about the sample: these are players who use a trophy tracker, a more motivated group than average. The real percentages across the whole PS5 player base are probably lower. The proportions between trophies, which is what we analyse, are not affected.

What this data cannot tell you

First, and this is what gets misread most: the curve sorts trophies by rarity, not by play order. When we say there is a 7.1-point drop between I Caught a Shooting Star! and A Keen-eyed Observation, it means they are two consecutive rungs of that sorted list, not that people quit between one and the other.

Second: this is a snapshot of a single day, nineteen months after release. We do not know how fast the platinum got to 5.3%, nor how much each update moved the curve. With one cut you cannot separate hard from long: a low trophy can be low because it is demanding or because it is boring.

And third: the percentages measure behaviour, not difficulty. Fishing dropping to a 27.7% average says how many people do it, not how hard it is to do.
