Where Players Quit Split Fiction

41.2% finish the story and 3.0% take the platinum. We analysed all 21 trophies across 82,220 players to explain why a 3-out-of-10 platinum is held by only one in fourteen of those who reach the credits.

The biggest drop, 14.9 points, separates what the game nudges you into from what you have to look for

The biggest drop between two consecutive trophies on the curve is 14.9 points: from the 40.5% of Robot Revolution to the 25.6% of Locked Up. No other drop exceeds 6.8 points.

Above that line there are four trophies, and the game itself prompts all four: Feed Me (48.7%) is a bush on the path, Huffing and Puffing (41.9%) is announced by a little pig bragging about his house, BFF's (41.2%) is the ending and the robot receptionist stands in the middle of the lobby. Below it are the ones you have to go looking for, knowing they exist.

Two of those four beat the story ending itself: you get them playing chapters 2 and 5 even without reaching the credits. Everything below 25.6% asks for an action nothing announces.

Key

The «Split Fiction» curve does not break at a boss: it breaks on what nobody tells you to do. The ten rarest trophies are actions nothing announces, benches nobody points out or two tests with no margin for error.

Two no-margin tests are the platinum: 3.3% and 4.2% against 3.0%

The end of the curve is two execution trophies: You Are Not a Robot (4.2%), beating a one-minute phone test while your partner drives, and Cold Potato (3.3%), finishing the bomb Gameshow without a single explosion. From 3.3% to the platinum's 3.0% there are only three tenths.

The two share a design: one mistake sends you back to the start. In Cold Potato, restarting the checkpoint does not count and you have to begin the side story again; in You Are Not a Robot, restarting the checkpoint puts you back on the bike with less time. It is the only part of the game that chapter select does not fix.

And the distance from the story is 38.2 points: from the 41.2% who finish the game down to 3.0%, one in fourteen. For a 3-out-of-10 platinum, with no difficulty to adjust and no missables, that is a very low conversion.

What the game announces gets done; what it does not, does not: 22.2% against 5.2%

The 12 side stories and the 6 benches are the same kind of task: finding one spot on the map in each chapter. The difference is that the heroines announce the side stories and not the benches. Result: Bookworms is at 22.2% and the six benches at 5.2%, four times fewer.

The same pattern repeats across the eleven hidden-gag trophies, which average 19.4%: the highest is the bush on the path (48.7%) and the lowest the cardboard box in the prison courtyard (4.1%). Are We the Baddies?, the first trophy you can earn in the game, is at 11.5%, under a third of those who finish.

By group, the average falls from the story's 41.2% to 21.6% for the side-story trophies, 19.4% for the hidden gags, 13.7% for side stories and benches together and 3.8% for the two execution tests.

The «drop» column is the difference in points against the previous trophy that counts towards the platinum: the big steps are where people stop playing. Trophies marked separate are from DLC or from side modes that are not needed for the platinum, so they do not chain a drop — mixing them in would compare steps from different playthroughs.

Where this data comes from

Unlock rate of all 21 trophies on PS5, measured across 82,220 tracked players. Snapshot source: PSNProfiles, consulted on 25 September 2026, eighteen and a half months after release. The 20 trophies besides the platinum all count towards it: there is no DLC and no separate mode.

The game has 0 missable trophies — chapter select by section lets you recover everything — and 3 hidden ones. Anyone playing with the Friend's Pass earns no trophies and is not in the sample.

A caveat about the sample: these are players who use a trophy tracker, a more motivated group than average. The real percentages across the whole PS5 player base are probably lower. The proportions between trophies, which is what we analyse, are not affected.

What this data cannot tell you

First, and this is what gets misread most: the curve sorts trophies by rarity, not by play order. When we say there is a 14.9-point drop between Robot Revolution and Locked Up, it means they are two consecutive rungs of that sorted list, not that people literally quit between one and the other: one is in chapter 2 and the other in chapter 6.

Second: this is a snapshot of a single day, eighteen and a half months after release. We do not know how fast the platinum got to 3.0%, nor whether it is still climbing. With one cut you cannot separate hard from unknown: a low trophy can be low because it is demanding or because nobody knows it exists, and this data does not distinguish between the two.

And third: the percentages measure behaviour, not difficulty. The hidden-gag trophies averaging 19.4% says how many people do them, not how hard they are to do.
