Lunatic is not in New Game+: the second run starts from scratch and ends at a boss

Lunar Supremacy is held by 5.2% and the platinum by 4.9%: the Lunatic final boss is the platinum. Why you have to start from scratch, what to upgrade first and the strategy for the last fight.

And it counts towards Our Promise, Pragmata, required for the platinum.

Why it takes two runs and what the first one unlocks

Our Promise (51.9%) asks you to finish the game on any difficulty, and the lowest counts. Finishing unlocks three things: the Unknown Signal epilogue, Lunatic difficulty and the tram to every sector.

What decides the platinum: Lunatic does not appear among the New Game+ options. You have to start a new game, without the first run's upgrades, weapons or mods. That forces two playthroughs and explains how to split the first: play it on whatever difficulty you like, learn the shoot-and-hack system, and close the epilogue and collectibles there. The second is Lunatic only.

The percentages leave no doubt: Lunar Supremacy is held by 5.2% and the platinum, Pragmata, by 4.9%. Three tenths apart. Practically nobody who clears Lunatic misses the platinum, and practically nobody who fails it gets there.

Careful

Lunatic unlocks after finishing the game but cannot be chosen in New Game+. The second run is genuinely new: no weapons or upgrades from the first.

What to upgrade and how to fight the last battle

On Lunatic the enemies are more aggressive, with more health and more damage, though you can print more weapons in the Shelter from the start. Regular enemies are a matter of patience; the problem is the bosses, with enormous health pools.

Upgrade priority: health, damage and Diana's hack damage. Weapon damage last, because it only affects the yellow slot. Grab every Safe Box and all the Pure Lunum you can along the way.

Weapons that deliver: the Jackhammer, which deals massive damage even when the enemy is not open; the Photon Laser, which deals more damage the longer you hold the beam without letting go; and the Charge Piercer fully charged, held at all times and released right as the enemy opens. Against regular enemies, Heat nodes with Combust Mode and the Pulse Carbine fill the overheat gauge fast and open a Critical Shot; not against bosses, whose bar fills slowly.

The final boss: go in with a full Deletion Protocol bar (you can back up and restore the save between attempts). Mods: Cheap Shot, Recursive Learning, Analog Aggression, Skirmisher, Optimal Performance and Close Quarters. Equip Photon Laser, Jackhammer and Offense Mode.

As soon as it starts, use Deletion Protocol to stun it, get behind and unload all the Photon Laser ammo without releasing the trigger; release only the hack button after each hack to chain another. Out of ammo, one Jackhammer shot and its follow-up before it recovers from the stun. Then dodge and hack until a second Protocol charges, shooting with the Charge Piercer — there is one in the arena — whenever it opens. At around 40-45% health you will have the second Protocol: pick up the arena's Photon Laser and repeat.
