14 trophies

The fourteen progress trophies: one per chapter plus finishing the campaign. The thirteen chapter ones are hidden and Complete all Chapters is not, which is exactly backwards from the norm. The reason is obvious from the names: they are verses that tell the ending.

This chapter has two things not to walk past. The first is the carnival: when you reach the square full of celebrating people, right before you leave on the far side there is a puppet stand with an audience sitting down. Staying for the whole show — it takes a minute — gives you Theater enthusiast.

The second is the Braquemart, the second of the eight blades, handed to you when you recover your gear from the barrel after crossing the square. That one cannot be missed.

And from the end of this chapter you can start buying skills, which is when the resonance-point clock starts running.

It is the game's most profitable chapter in trophy terms. Almost as it starts you reach a bridge with several soldiers and a great many bottles: that is where No holds barred and Overboard farm together, bottle then kick, restarting the section.

Further on, in the puzzles-and-traps section, sits the first giant monolith with the Kopis, the third blade.

And at the end of the chapter you unlock the focus attack, the mechanic three more trophies depend on.

Two things start here. The first is the petrified: those "statues" that dissolve when you sweep light across them, and which feed They were people — 100 in total.

The second is a convenient spot for Cannon fodder: at the start of the chapter, after clearing the first enemies, head left to a chest. Opening it spawns several enemies including a Brute. This is the chapter where the creature shows up, the "worm" that hunts you by following the trail of blue dust you leave when running. And it is where both of its trophies farm:

- Close call: when it detects you, run for a light and arrive just as its head enters frame. Five times. - Unpredictable: in the stretch where the game forces you to jump two gaps there are three parallel platforms. Jump between them non-stop, restart the section and repeat: you get ten jumps per attempt.

The Sica is also here, right after taking Daedalus's key.

And in the final-trial section is the spot for Baitfish: slip through the hole, sneak to the spotlight in the middle without switching it on, then run and drop down to the left to wake every petrified at once, and climb quickly onto a high platform.

It pops on completing the campaign and it is the only progress trophy that is not hidden, exactly the reverse of the norm. The reason is obvious from reading the other thirteen: they are verses that tell the ending.

The interesting number is in the comparison. Chapter 13 is at 13.7% and this one at 13.2%: half a point of people finish the last chapter and never see the credits. After 13 there is a Chapter 14 that awards no trophy and has no collectibles either.

From here chapter select opens up, which recovers everything except the resonance points.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy trophy guide — Combat and operation trophies

11 trophies

Eleven combat feats. None asks for sustained skill: they are specific gestures you do deliberately once.

What they do ask is knowing where to do them, because nearly all can be farmed by restarting the section at two very specific spots — the Chapter 4 bridge and the Chapter 10 one.

Knives are not bought: you pick them up off the ground with R3 after killing an enemy carrying one. With the Predestined Impact skill Sophia pockets the first one instead of throwing it, so you press R3 twice.

The convenient spot is the start of Chapter 10: drop a knife-carrying enemy, grab the knife, move to the far end of the bridge and there will be at least one archer there. On low difficulty he goes down in one; on high ones you need to weaken him first.

It also comes almost by itself in Chapter 4, in the lever section: two archers on the sides and two knives on the floor.

Brutes are the big mace-carrying enemies. Take them to half health and they go into a rage, swinging wildly forwards and catching their allies. The trophy asks that one of those swings kills a comrade.

The detail people miss: hitting him is not enough, it has to kill him. So it helps if the ally is already hurt.

The best place to provoke it is the start of Chapter 5: after clearing the first enemies, head left to a chest. Opening it spawns several enemies and a Brute. Take it to half health and dodge so a soldier is always between it and you.

The focus attack unlocks at the end of Chapter 4 and is used with triangle + circle when the meter is full. The meter fills by parrying, hitting and finishing enemies.

And here is the nuance that explains the 4.0%: the focus attack takes two or three health bars off the enemies it catches, it does not kill them outright. For four to drop you have to weaken them first. Fired into four full-health enemies, it does nothing.

The spot is the bridge at the start of Chapter 10: there is plenty of group. Spread damage across all of them without finishing any, fill the meter, stand in the middle and let it go.

Chapter 7 works too.

The perfect parry is an L1 press just as the enemy is about to hit you, and it drains their resistance fast. You can do it almost from the start of the game.

The description does not say so, and that is why only 15.4% have it: the six parries have to fit inside two or three seconds. The chain breaks if you take a hit, mistime a parry, attack in between, or leave too long between them. They can be different enemies.

The comfortable way to get it is counter-intuitive: raise the difficulty to Nightmare and turn invincible mode on. On Nightmare the enemies are far more aggressive, which is exactly what you need, and invincible mode blocks no trophy, so you can keep at it without reloading the checkpoint.

The Corrupted are walking corpses that show up from Chapter 11 on, in the marionettes section. They do not grab from close range: they lunge at you from mid distance intending to pin you.

At 2.7% it is the game's least-earned combat trophy, and the reason is that it asks you to do the opposite of instinct on two counts at once:

1. Arrive at the grab with the focus meter already full. The normal thing is to spend it as soon as it charges. 2. Let yourself be grabbed. Do not attack or parry when you see one lunge.

Once it has you, press triangle + circle to release the focus attack and break out.

Chapter 11 is the best place because there are several Corrupted and you can retry by restarting the section.

Many fights have bottles on the ground that you throw with R3. They do not kill: they leave the enemy stunned and out of resistance.

Watch out for the Predestined Impact skill: with it, the first R3 makes Sophia pocket the bottle instead of throwing it. Press twice.

The spot to farm it is the bridge at the start of Chapter 4, which has plenty of enemies and a great many bottles. And it goes together with Overboard: bottle to stun, triangle kick to send him off the bridge, next one. When only the archer is left, pause and restart the section.

The petrified are the human "statues" that start appearing in Chapter 5. They dissolve when light sweeps over them, and any source works: environmental spotlights, mirror reflections and, later, the orb's Light Concentrate.

A hundred sounds like a lot and is not. In Chapter 11 there is a section where they literally block the way and dissolving them is near-mandatory, so a good share comes naturally.

If you are short, the place to farm is Chapter 13, the surviving-the-corruption section: as it opens you are in a room packed with petrified with a spotlight in the far corner. Switch it on, sweep them all, pause, restart the section and repeat. Two rounds does it.

Unlocked by

The critical strike comes from holding square: Sophia stabs with her dagger and, if the enemy is weak or low on health, an animation starts that finishes them in one.

That is the key, and why only 29.8% have it despite it being trivial: it is not an attack, it is a finisher. Used on a full-health enemy, it does not count.

So the rule is simple: whenever an enemy is about to drop, finish him with a critical instead of a normal hit. Play that way and you reach 25 without thinking about it.

If you would rather farm it, the start of Chapter 10 has enemies to spare: finish as many as you can, restart the section and repeat.

Echo's Return is one of the skill-tree abilities, so you have to buy it — available from the end of Chapter 2. It works by pressing circle just as an enemy is about to hit you: instead of taking the blow, you grab him and throw him into his comrades.

And here is a nuance that saves attempts: although the description says "stun", in practice it is enough for the thrown enemy to hit two others, even if one of them does not end up stunned.

The spot: the bridge at the start of Chapter 10. Move around a little so two enemies bunch up, wait for one of them to attack and throw him into the group.
