All eight at once, 9,999 damage and the dragon that rides on the platinum
Dragonslayer sits at 36.55% and is the rarest trophy after the platinum: whoever kills Orochi, platinums. The six combat trophies, and why you field all eight travellers at once here.
And it counts towards Max Boost, A New Skill, Octopath Battler, Hard Hitter, Dragonslayer, required for the platinum.
Three tutorials and a system change
Three of the six are the combat tutorial and pop practically on their own:
- First Break — 99.86%. Break an enemy's defence for the first time. It is the game's most common trophy: virtually everyone who turns the console on has it. - Maximum Boost — 96.26%. Act at maximum boost for the first time. - A New Skill — 92.61%. Learn a skill for the first time.
The fourth is the one that actually explains something about the game:
Eight-Way Battle — 76.66%. Fight for the first time with all eight travellers in your party.
And here is the change from the rest of the series: unlike previous Octopath games, you do not pick four here. The game lets you field all eight at once, split between front and back rows.
This trophy arrives on its own while you recruit, but it pays to understand the row system early, because in long fights it is what decides who survives. It is not a convenience: it is the mechanic the game's superboss is built on.
The 9,999 damage and the dragon
Devastating Blow — 62.59%. Deal at least 9,999 damage in a single hit.
That is the default damage cap, so hitting hard is not enough: you have to break the enemy, build boost to maximum and stack buffs. Against a broken enemy, at full boost, with an ultimate technique, it lands.
And the advice that saves frustration: if it resists you, do not push early. With late-game equipment it falls almost without trying. Attempting it mid-run is arguing with the maths.
Dragonslayer — 36.55%. Defeat Amatsukami no Orochi, the game's superboss.
It is the rarest trophy after the platinum, and one figure places it perfectly: it rides practically alongside it. Whoever kills the dragon, platinums. There is no obstacle behind it.
That makes Orochi the game's last real exam, and explains why it pays to arrive prepared: all eight travellers recruited, the secondary jobs unlocked and the battle-tested gear equipped.
Put another way: the other twenty-seven trophies on this list are the preparation for this one.
