Split Fiction's 12 side stories and 6 benches: where they are and which trophies they hide
Bookworms is at 22.2% and the six benches at 5.2%. The game announces the side stories; not the benches. Here are all eighteen spots, chapter by chapter, and the five trophies you earn inside the side stories.
And it counts towards Sisters: A Tale Of Two Besties, Goin' Whole Hog, Huffing and Puffing, Chair the Load, Potion Chef, Cold Potato, required for the platinum.
What counts and what does not
The side stories are bubbles spread across chapters 2 to 5, three per chapter, leading to a short level with a different setting. Entering is not enough: you have to finish it. Chapter select marks which ones are missing.
There are six benches, one per chapter from 2 to 7. For one to count, both of you have to sit down and let the conversation start. The game does not track benches in any menu, so it is worth noting them down.
Bookworms is at 22.2% and Sisters: A Tale Of Two Besties at 5.2%: four times fewer for an equivalent task nobody announces.
The 12 side stories
Eleven are on the main path or are announced by the heroines as you pass by. The one people miss most is the third in chapter 2, on a side rooftop. The trophy pops when you finish the twelfth, the birthday cake one.
| Chapter | Side story | How to reach it |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | The Legend of the Sandfish | A cutscene introduces it at the start of the chapter. You cannot miss it. |
| 2 | Farmlife | At the start of Streets of Neon, climb the alley steps: it is behind a fence, with hay bales. |
| 2 | Mountain Hike | On the rooftop with the portable toilets, look back and up: there is a giant Viking axe. Put your partner in a toilet and throw it onto that roof. |
| 3 | Train Heist | During the stretch where you pull Zoe through branches and water lilies, up on the right. |
| 3 | Gameshow | After the 2D underwater stealth stretch, on the left, with a purple light. |
| 3 | Collapsing Star | In the ice palace, while climbing outside, at the top of the other tower. |
| 4 | Kites | Past the rollers, instead of turning left with the story, keep going straight. |
| 4 | Moon Market | After beating the big mech, a room with a door and two coloured switches: hit the red and the blue at the same time. |
| 4 | Notebook | When you get outside with the jetpacks, follow the giant cable towards the citadel: a floating islet drawn in pencil. |
| 5 | Slopes of War | After crossing the ravine on the sliding bridge, go left at the fork; the right path, with two golden balls, continues the story. |
| 5 | Space Escape | After beating the armoured boss, leave the cave: it is on the right. |
| 5 | Birthday Cake | After freeing the dragon spirits, a floating island with a rainbow and gummy bears as platforms. |
The 6 benches
None has an icon or a line of dialogue announcing it. Almost all face a view, at the edge of the path, and you walk right past them if you are rushing after the story.
| Chapter | Where the bench is |
|---|---|
| 2 | After the flying-car chase that ends in the pool, launch from a pole onto the balcony of the building opposite. It faces the city. |
| 3 | Right after opening the ice palace door, on the left, behind the tree. |
| 4 | Right after dropping off the jetpacks, go straight to the big window. |
| 5 | Coming out of the snow side story, climb to the top of the cliff: the bench overlooks an aqueduct and a giant broken dragon egg. |
| 6 | After being dumped into the giant waste container, carry on to a flying transport: the bench is next to it. |
| 7 | Right after crossing the rotating light platforms, in the tower of light beams. |
The five trophies inside the side stories
Farmlife (chapter 2) has two. When you leave the first barn, turn left and ram the sleeping giant pig's belly with Mio's pig: Goin' Whole Hog (11.8%). Further on, go round the brick house and ram the target on the back: Huffing and Puffing (41.9%).
Moon Market (chapter 4) has another two. To the left of the entrance there is a wand: zap your partner until she turns into a chair and sit on her, Chair the Load (14.4%). Then brew and drink the six potions on the board next to the cauldron, Potion Chef (18.3%).
Gameshow (chapter 3) holds Cold Potato (3.3%), the rarest in the game, which has its own guide.
