Shifting Earth: where each of the four events hides its secret
Mountaintop, Crater, Rotted Woods and Noklateo: what each event's secret is, what it gives, how to force the one you are missing and why the Crater also settles Legendary Armament.
And it counts towards The Crater, Rotted Woods, Noklateo, the Shrouded City, Shifting Earth, Legendary Armament, required for the platinum.
How the events appear
Shifting Earth transforms part of the map into a new area for the whole expedition. There are four, and each hides a secret that gives its own trophy; all four together give Shifting Earth (36.6%), which requires having them on the same save.
They appear at random from the first expedition onwards, and each player has their own active one. Following the story, all four almost always show up, and the PSNProfiles guide notes a usual order: the Crater first, then the Mountaintop, the Rotted Woods and finally Noklateo. If you are missing one, join the expedition of someone who has it active. The guide recommends entering any of them at level 10 or higher.
| Event | Where the secret is | What it gives | Held by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crater | At the bottom, past the guarding boss | Smithing table: any weapon becomes legendary | 52.6% |
| Mountaintop | Crystal structure at the very top | Frostbite resistance and more attack | 49.9% |
| Rotted Woods | In a tree; the clue is in the bottom-right fort | Scarlet Rot immunity and more health | 48.9% |
| Noklateo | Behind the fog door at the back of the church | Automatic self-revive | 42.9% |
The Crater settles Legendary Armament
Legendary Armament (68.9%) asks you to own a yellow-rarity weapon. One can drop from Day 2 field bosses, but the safe route is the smithing table at the bottom of the Crater: it upgrades any weapon to legendary, and using it gives both trophies in the same visit.
The Crater also holds a church with an extra flask charge, a merchant and an anvil, so it is a good event for preparing for the night.
The Forsaken Hollows expansion added a new Shifting Earth area, but no trophies: the four secrets with their own trophy are the base-game ones.
