The eight Nightlords: in what order, solo or in a group, and the three-win streak
Thirteen trophies come from defeating the Nightlords. Which to do first, what to bring against each, what changes when playing solo, why Dawn may not pop and how to protect the Nightlord Slayer streak.
And it counts towards Night Begins, Tricephalos, Gaping Jaw, Sentient Pest, Augur, Equilibrious Beast, Darkdrift Knight, Fissure in the Fog, Night Aspect, Nightlord Conqueror, Dawn, Nightlord Slayer, required for the platinum.
The order: four manageable, three hard, and Heolstor
Each expedition is three in-game days: two to level up and gear up on a map that the Night's Tide circle keeps closing, and a third against the chosen Nightlord. If the party falls to a boss, the whole expedition starts over.
At first only Gladius is available. Beating him pops The Nightlords (72.9%) and opens the rest. Heolstor, the final boss, requires four different Nightlords beaten, which is what gives Night Begins (56.0%). The PSNProfiles guide recommends making those four Gladius, Maris, Gnoster and Caligo, and leaving Adel, Fulghor and Libra for later.
The table sums up what to bring. All percentages come from this page's snapshot.
| Nightlord | Trophy | Held by | What to bring |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gladius | Tricephalos | 73.2% | Holy damage; fire resistance |
| Adel | Gaping Jaw | 61.8% | Poison; lightning resistance |
| Gnoster | Sentient Pest | 57.4% | A group: two bosses at once |
| Maris | Augur | 55.8% | Lightning bows; sleep resistance |
| Libra | Equilibrious Beast | 51.7% | Madness resistance |
| Fulghor | Darkdrift Knight | 51.6% | Holy damage resistance |
| Caligo | Fissure in the Fog | 51.6% | Fire; frostbite resistance |
| Heolstor | Night Aspect | 48.0% | Holy damage; two fights back to back |
Solo or in a group: what changes
All 37 trophies can be earned solo and offline: the PSNProfiles guide confirms it, and PowerPyx counts all of them as offline trophies. But the game is designed for three players, and playing solo gives you no AI teammates: PowerPyx raises the platinum's difficulty to 9.5 out of 10 solo or with unskilled randoms.
Co-op is online only; there is no couch co-op. It counts for every boss trophy: winning the expedition as a party is enough. Where it matters most is Gnoster, two bosses at once, and the Nightlord Slayer streak. Where it does not help is A Champion's Path: the win has to be yours with each character.
The three-win streak and the ending that gives no trophy
Nightlord Slayer (40.6%) asks for three wins in a row against three different Nightlords; one loss resets the counter. PowerPyx and PSNProfiles share the same trick: back up your save to the cloud after every win and restore it if you lose. It can pop on its own during the story if you string together three first wins.
Dawn (45.3%) does not pop on beating Heolstor: you have to return to the Roundtable Hold and offer his rune. And if the character you are playing has completed their Remembrance questline, their own ending plays and the trophy does not. Nightlord Conqueror (45.2%) drops when you beat the eighth different Nightlord.
For Dawn, beat Heolstor with a character who has not finished their Remembrance questline. If a character ending plays, redo the expedition with someone else.
