Brutes, Corrupted and petrified: the three trophies that depend on the enemy

Excessive force is the game's lowest combat trophy at 2.7%, and it fails when you do what instinct tells you. The three special enemies, which chapter each appears in, and what to do backwards.

When each one appears

Three trophies and three enemies that do not exist from the start. Attempting them early is the most common way to waste time:

- The petrified start appearing in Chapter 5. They are the human "statues" that dissolve when light sweeps over them. - The Brutes — the big mace-carrying enemies — show up for the first time near the end of Chapter 4. - The Corrupted do not appear until Chapter 11, in the marionettes section.

Which means Excessive force is impossible for the first ten chapters, however well you have the mechanic down. It is not a trophy that slips past you: it is one that has not started yet.

Excessive force: two instincts to switch off

At 2.7% it is the least earned combat trophy in the game, and not through execution difficulty. It asks you to do the exact opposite of instinct on two counts at once:

1. Arrive at the grab with the focus meter already full. The normal thing is to spend it as soon as it charges, because it is the most powerful ability you have. 2. Let yourself be grabbed. When you see a Corrupted lunge at you, the reflex is to attack or parry. Here you have to do nothing.

A detail about how they grab: the Corrupted do not grab from close range. They lunge at you from mid distance intending to pin you, so you have to recognise that move and let it land.

Once it has you, press triangle + circle to release the focus attack and break out.

Chapter 11 is the best place because there are several Corrupted and you can retry by restarting the section. And remember the meter fills by parrying, hitting and finishing enemies: arrive at the Corrupted having fought, not having dodged.

Key

The mistake that costs the trophy is spending the focus meter before you get grabbed. Reach the Corrupted with a full meter and do not use it until you are pinned.

Cannon fodder and They were people

Cannon fodder — 26.4%. Get a Brute to kill one of its own soldiers while in a rage.

Take them to half health and they go into a rage, swinging wildly forwards and catching their allies. And the detail that trips people up: hitting him is not enough, it has to kill him, so it helps if the ally is already hurt.

The best place to provoke it is the start of Chapter 5: after clearing the first enemies, head left to a chest. Opening it spawns several enemies and a Brute. Take it to half health and dodge so a soldier is always between it and you.

They were people — 15.7%. Destroy 100 petrified with light.

A hundred sounds like a lot and is not, because any light source works: environmental spotlights, mirror reflections and, from Chapter 10, the orb's Light Concentrate. In Chapter 11 there is a section where the petrified literally block the way and dissolving them is near-mandatory, so a good share comes naturally.

If you are short, the place to farm is Chapter 13, the surviving-the-corruption section: as it opens you are in a room packed with petrified with a spotlight in the far corner. Switch it on, sweep them all, pause, restart the section and repeat. Two rounds does it.
