Stellar Blade’s three endings and two points of no return: why the platinum takes two playthroughs

Two of the three endings depend on a Lily bar you cannot check, and they exclude each other. Cost of Lost Memories is the rarest trophy in the game (13.8%). How each ending is decided, what each point of no return locks, and where to save to the cloud.

Adam’s hand and Lily’s bar

Everything is decided in the final conversation with Adam. Refusing his hand always gives Return to the Colony (24.7%). Taking it gives one of the other two endings depending on Lily’s progress bar: at 100%, Making New Memories (31.8%); below that, Cost of Lost Memories (13.8%).

The bar rises with Memorysticks, documents and side quests, and there is no menu to see it in: it only pops up when you pick up some collectibles, and when it is full Lily’s icon flashes white. The reliable tell comes after Abyss Levoire: if Lily asks to go to Eidos 9, you are on track for Making New Memories; if she does not, for Cost of Lost Memories.

That is why it takes two playthroughs. The first is played in full, with everything collected, and ends in Making New Memories. The second is a New Game +, where the bar resets to zero: story only, picking nothing up, for Cost of Lost Memories. That second run also awards Repeating Protocols (14.7%), which does not count towards the platinum.

What each point of no return locks

The first point comes on your return from Abyss Levoire: as soon as you talk to Adam to move on, Xion closes for that playthrough. With it go its cans and collectibles and the Kaya and Enya and Su stories, which take Behemoth, Brute, Sisterly Love and Beyond Fate with them. The game warns you first; say no until everything is done.

The second comes after defeating the Demogorgon: once you follow Lily to the final area there is no way back to any map and no more normal enemies. Before that step you need every combat counter and every collectible, with two exceptions that finish there: Meticulous Explorer should be at 87 of 89 Camps and Naytiba Researcher at 63 of 67, because three of those entries only come with Return to the Colony.

The game has only one autosave. If you win the final fight first time, you can reload and pick the other option with Adam; if you die, you cannot. The fix is to upload a copy to the PS Plus cloud at the last Camp before the conversation, take one ending and restore it for the other.

Careful

If the first playthrough ends with Lily’s bar at 100%, Cost of Lost Memories is no longer possible on it. Save it for New Game +, where the bar starts from zero.

Other Stellar Blade guides

The platinum route in two playthroughs: what to finish before each story boss
The thirteen story trophies run from 90.0% for the first Camp to 43.1% for Raven. The full route: first run collecting everything, second in New Game + with the story only, and the two points where you must stop.
The Xion stories you lose after Abyss Levoire: Kaya, Enya and Su, D1G-g2r and the Brute
Five chained side-quest trophies, from 48.6% for the Brute to 35.5% for Enya and Su, plus the city’s cans. The order that avoids dead ends, the shops you must raise to affinity 2, and what closes when you talk to Adam.
The seven collectible trophies: how many each asks for, how many exist and which can be missed
From 40.7% for the records to 16.6% for the 89 Camps. Four trophies have plenty of slack and three demand the full set, two of them tied to Eidos 9 and the endings. What fills Lily’s bar and why all of this belongs to the first playthrough.
Maxed upgrades and the 96 skills: what material each trophy needs and what can wait for New Game +
Six upgrade trophies between the 40.6% of the Blood Edge and the 22.5% of all skills, plus the 12 New Game + skills (14.4%). All of them can be finished on the second run, and for some it is the better choice.
The eight combat counters: Tachy Mode is the one almost nobody does (13.9%)
Dodges, parries, executions and kills by attack type, from 54.8% for Beta Skills to 13.9% for the hidden Tachy Mode trophy. Which skill to buy for each, what does not count, and where to farm them before the final area runs out of enemies.
