Journals, records and Gestrals: the collectibles are rarer than Simon

Clair Obscur’s two rarest trophies are collectibles: 49 journals and 33 records, in a game with no per-zone counter. What each one counts, how many there are, what requires flying with Esquie and the detail that stops the Nevron quests from popping.

Why they are the rarest part of the platinum

Follow The Trail, the journals, is held by 11.1%, and Connoisseur, the records, by 11.5%. Both sit below beating Simon (15.5%), the hardest boss in the game. It is not difficulty: the game has no per-zone collectible counter, and finding the one journal missing out of 49 means going over the whole map.

Two tools help: the menu shows the list of journals you have, and the camp phonograph the list of records. And a warning: New Game+ resets both, so everything is picked up on the first run.

Each collectible trophy, with its number

The table sums up what each trophy counts and the detail that trips people up. Everything that is not missable can be cleaned up after the ending, with the map open.

When to do them: Act III opens everything

Until Act III not everything is accessible: Esquie learns to fly as it begins, and that is what reaches the last Lost Gestrals and the optional endgame zones. Diving, Esquie’s fourth ability, depends on raising his relationship to level 6.

The practical approach is to pick up what is at hand during the story and do a final sweep with the map open, zone by zone, checking the journal list in the menu. Relationships chip in: the level 6 relationships with Sciel, Lune and Monoco give records, and Lune’s quest hands over a journal. And keep Monoco in the active party from the moment he joins: his skills are learned on their own if he is present at the end of each fight.

Fact

Nevron quests almost always fail for the same reason: the request is handed over and the Nevron is not spoken to again. The reward, and the trophy count, come in that second conversation.

Other Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 guides

Clair Obscur’s four missables, and two of them are in the prologue
The platinum fits in one playthrough if none of this slips: the prologue Mime, the camp scene after the first Axon, the Truth answer to Maelle and never killing a Nevron with a quest. What can be missed, when, and what is no longer missable after 1.5.0.
Clair Obscur optional bosses: what order to do them in and how to reach Simon
Sprong, the Chromatic Pétank, the Serpenphare, Clea, the Painting Workshop, the 33 Endless Tower fights and Simon: the order that makes each one easier than the last, the trick to each fight and how to get Professional without risk.
All five relationships to level 7: the quest each one needs and the answer not to give
Sciel, Monoco, Maelle, Lune and Esquie at level 7 are five trophies, and they also unlock the level 3 Gradient Attack and Esquie’s diving. When each level opens, which quest the step from 5 to 6 requires and the Maelle answer that ruins it all.
One trophy per character: Overcharge, Stains, Virtuose Stance, Foretell, Rank S and Monoco’s wheel
Each character has their own mechanic and a trophy that tests it. How to set each one up on purpose, which enemy to do it against and why Monoco’s, at 30.1%, is the hardest.
Level 99 and a weapon at 33: the only part of the platinum that is grind
Six progression trophies: the first weapon upgrade, a weapon at level 33, Lumina and levels 33, 66 and 99. Which material is always missing, why level 99 is best left for just before Simon and where levelling is fastest.
All 18 story trophies, act by act, and what to do in each
No story trophy can be missed, but each act opens something the platinum needs: the Curator, relationships, Esquie’s flight. From the prologue’s 84.9% to the ending’s 43.2%, with what to do in each stretch.
