The story, chapter by chapter: the credits are not the end
The eight story trophies, all hidden, with the mission that awards each, the Hunter Rank each one needs and what to do along the way. From 91.3% for the first to 59.7% for the last.
And it counts towards Shadow in the Downpour, Guardians of the Forge, Bringer of Harmony, New Ecosystems, A Bitter Environment, Beyond the Black Wings, One Corner of the World, required for the platinum.
Eight trophies, six chapters and three rank caps
The eight story trophies are hidden and none can be missed. They pop when you complete the last mission of each chapter, and from chapter 4 the game halts the story until you raise your Hunter Rank: 20 to close chapter 4, 33 for chapter 5 and 40 for chapter 6. That rank goes up by hunting and doing side missions, which also count for the platinum.
The most confusing point is Bringer of Harmony (70.6%): after you kill Zoh Shia the credits roll, but it is the end of Low Rank, not of the game. Between that trophy and the last, One Corner of the World (59.7%), 11 points are lost.
| Trophy | Mission | Chapter | Hunter Rank | Held by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Windward Lands | The Desert Trotters | 1 | — | 91.3% |
| Shadow in the Downpour | Beyond the Deluge | 1 | — | 79.3% |
| Guardians of the Forge | Long-forgotten Flame | 2 | — | 74.4% |
| Bringer of Harmony | Monster Hunter | 3 | — | 70.6% |
| New Ecosystems | New Ecosystems | 4 | — | 69.2% |
| A Bitter Environment | Wyvern Sparks and Rose Thorns | 4 | 20 | 65.4% |
| Beyond the Black Wings | A World Turned Upside Down | 5 | 33 | 60.5% |
| One Corner of the World | What Lies Ahead | 6 | 40 | 59.7% |
What to do along the way
Chapter 1. In the mission A Hunter's Pride, the alpha Doshaguma leading the pack always has a gold crown: look at it through the Binoculars before the fight and you get A Keen-eyed Observation (22.2%) on top of Giant Crown. After that mission you can already customise your Seikret.
From the start, as a pair. If you have someone to play with, doing the story with a single partner advances both the 100 multiplayer quests and the 100 Palico quests at once. With three or more, the Palico stays at camp.
Chapter 4. New Ecosystems teaches capturing, and Wyvern Sparks and Rose Thorns opens tempered monsters and Artian weapons. From here on, do every side mission that appears: there are more than 30, but they open gradually.
Chapter 5. A World Turned Upside Down locks every region in Inclemency and does not let you rest until it is done. Do not plan anything else while it lasts.
Of those who finish the story, fewer than one in eleven take the platinum: 59.7% against 5.3%. Finishing chapter 6 is, in practice, half the journey.
