Two of the tales ask for two masters, not one: that is why they get lost
The Way of the Ōdachi starts on its own during another tale, and anyone who does not know a second master is missing ends up halfway. Ten sensei and side tales, plus the minigame almost nobody finds.
And it counts towards Way of the Kusarigama, Way of the Odachi, Kunai Defender, Gift for Destruction, From One Ghost to Another, Unrivaled, Sitturaynu, Naming a Friend, A Moment to Breathe, required for the platinum.
The two that ask for two masters
The sensei tales are not ordinary optional content: they are the route by which the game's weapons are learned. Without them you cannot complete Take Aim or Quick Draw, which ask for every ranged and fast-attack weapon.
And within the block, two ask for two tales, not one, and that is why they get lost:
The Way of the Ōdachi — 70.7%. Help defend Master Yoshida's dojo in the final battle.
The first starts on its own during the Saito brothers' tale — the same one that awards The Dragon — and the second has to be sought out at Master Yoshida's dojo, in the Tokachi range.
People who lose it usually did the first through the story and never knew a second was missing. There is no prompt at all: the tale simply sits half done.
The Gift of Destruction — 73.51%. Help Ina drive off the Oni's raiders. Like the previous one, it asks for two consecutive master tales: first the bombmaker's, then the defence against the raiders. It is among the block's most accessible, and it unlocks the explosive branch of combat along the way.
And the three that are single tales:
The Way of the Yari — 72.8%. Complete The Fury of the Yari. Besides the trophy, it unlocks the yari — which you need for Spearfishing — and the Typhoon Kick skill, required for Sayonara.
The Way of the Kusarigama — 67%. Complete The Shame of the Kusarigama. It is a prerequisite for The Owl's Claw, so it pays to do it early.
Kunai Defender — 67.22%. The kunai tale, which begins at Hana's farm, northwest of the Teshio ridge.
The Way of the Ōdachi and The Gift of Destruction each ask for two master tales. The first of each pair starts on its own through the story and the second has to be sought out: nothing warns you it is missing.
The four side tales and the minigame nobody finds
Outside the master tales there are four more trophies, and their percentages fall the further they sit from the main path.
Naming a Friend — 86.86%. Complete the side tale Ancient Paths and choose a name for your horse. It is the block's highest because the game puts it in front of you very early.
Sitturaynu — 68.03%. Complete the side tale The Burden We Carry, in which you share a meal with huci.
From One Ghost to Another — 61.9%. Acquire a legendary hero's blade.
It is not story content: it comes from a side tale on the Oshima coast, the storm blade's. It sits considerably below the master tales, because it is off the main path and nothing pushes you towards it. If the weapon interests you, you have to go looking.
The Unmatched — 59.23%. Complete the mythic tale The Five Teachings, which ends with the duel against Takezo the Unmatched at the summit of Mount Yōtei.
And the lowest of the ten:
A Moment to Breathe — 49.72%. Get a perfect score at ku-e-shinok, the minigame run by the girl in the Ainu hunting grounds, in the Yōtei Grasslands.
It is among the trophies most people leave behind, and not through difficulty: it is unmarked and you have to come across the girl. Fewer than half of everyone who plays Ghost of Yōtei ever learns the minigame exists.
That 49.72% against the 86.86% for naming the horse sums the block up: what the game puts in front of you, almost everyone does; what has to be found, half.
