The 5 missable challenges in Crimson Desert and the 4 trophies they block
Five Crimson Desert challenges disappear for good if you get there late. They block four mandatory trophies and can ruin a 250-hour platinum. Which ones they are and how to avoid them.
And it counts towards Grand Collector of Arms, Shadowlord, Battlefield Conqueror, required for the platinum.
Why the game does not flag them as missable
No Crimson Desert trophy is marked as missable, and that is true as far as it goes: the game does not close off your save and you can keep exploring after the story ends.
The risk sits one level down. The trophies do not ask for direct actions, they ask you to complete whole challenge categories, and inside those categories there are five specific challenges that disappear or become impossible. If you lose one, its category sits at 99% forever and the trophy never pops.
With a platinum that runs 200 to 300 hours, that is the difference between finishing it and starting over. That is why this guide exists.
Four trophies depend on these five challenges: Brilliant Tactician, Grand Collector of Arms, Shadowlord and Battlefield Conqueror. All four are mandatory for the platinum.
The five missable challenges, one by one
Ordered by the point in the playthrough where you need to start worrying about them.
| Challenge | Category | Trophy it blocks | Why it is lost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Operation 7: Disruption | Operation | Brilliant Tactician | Needs the Jackals faction. It disappears the moment you clear the Pailune camps. |
| Special Weapon 8: Marni Laser Helm | Special Weapons | Grand Collector of Arms | There is no known way to get a second copy. |
| Special Weapon 10: Vessel of Dark Pursuit | Special Weapons | Grand Collector of Arms | It can be sold by accident with no way to get it back. |
| Above the Law 4: Back Alley Cleanup | Above the Law | Shadowlord | It does not count retroactively: you have to hold the artifact before doing it. |
| Battle 6: Into the Barrage | Battle | Battlefield Conqueror | Cannon shot opportunities are limited. Best done in chapter 8. |
The root cause: the 141 Sealed Abyss Artifacts
Almost all the risk on this list comes from the same system. A challenge only starts making progress after you find the Sealed Abyss Artifact that unlocks it. It does not count retroactively, apart from a few cumulative requirements.
There are 141 artifacts spread across the map. If you do something before holding its artifact, that action does not count. In most cases it does not matter because you can repeat it, but with the five challenges above you cannot.
That is where the only important recommendation in this guide comes from, and it is the same one the roadmap gives: spend the first 25 hours crossing the map collecting the 141 artifacts before touching the story properly. The artifacts show up as purple icons on the minimap and can be picked out with the sword's Guiding Light ability.
Collecting the 141 artifacts before pushing the story turns four of the five missables into non-missables. It is the single biggest time-saver in the game.
What we have verified and what we have not
The five challenges and their causes are documented and cross-checked. What we have not verified in our own save is the exact moment Operation 7 disappears, or whether patch 1.04, which added the Easy difficulty, changed any of this behaviour.
We also cannot confirm the list is exhaustive: there may be more undocumented missable challenges. If you find one, tell us and we will verify it before adding it.
